The estate dates from 1633 and was transformed after Jean Gautreau bought it in 1969; his name still appears on the label. Although unclassified, it is widely regarded as performing at the level of the classified growths.\n\nThe blend usually balances Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with a little Cabernet Franc, and in 2013 Merlot made up just over half. The wine is raised almost entirely in new French oak. 2013 produced a lighter, softer Sociando: cassis and blueberry with a hint of wet stone, smooth tannins and moderate body.
