Pooley Wines, established in 1985 in Tasmania’s Coal River Valley, has grown over three generations into one of Australia’s leading cool-climate wine producers. Beginning with Pinot Noir and Riesling vines at Cooinda Vale, the family later expanded with the Butcher’s Hill vineyard, distinguished by its dark and orange soils shaped by the valley’s diverse geology. The region’s mix of alluvial, basalt, and dolerite soils, combined with a unique maritime-influenced climate, creates ideal conditions for viticulture, including long ripening periods and reduced disease pressure.
