Superfelsaspranger Riesling 2020
Superfelsaspranger Riesling 2020 $38.95
Felsasprangerย [rock splitter]: Alsatian for a dry and sharp wine.Three childhood friends, now at the head of each family's domain decided to combine a batch of each of their wines and see where it took them. Paul Fuchs, Jรฉrรดme Mader and Eric Kientzler are theย Drei Manner Wieย (three like men) who are still avid wine lovers at heart, despite the pressures of running the family business. The genesis for Super Felsa Sprangerย actually occurred a few years ago on a trip to Australia when Eric and Jรฉrรดme were inspired by the creative labels they encountered. Back home in Alsace they hooked up with their old friend Paul and took a colloquialย saying fromย the local Alsatian dialect and turned it, tongue-in-cheek, into a wine brand. All they needed now was some wine.So in vintage 2018 they each contributed a parcel of fruit and the Super Felsa Spranger was born. Far from the implications of the name and the label image, the wine itself is no 'battery-acid-and-water'ย Riesling. Indeed,ย with the fruit coming from classic marl and limestone terroirsย it is a seriously good, traditionalย Alsatian Riesling.

Fritz Haag Riesling Brauneberger Juffer GL Feinherb 2020 - Wine Germany White - Liquor Wine Cave
Fritz Haag Riesling Brauneberger Juffe... $69.95
2020 Rieslingย Brauneberger Juffer Grosses Lage (Feinherb) This off-dry single vineyard is given some skin contact before natural yeast fermentation in varying proportions of 1000L oak barrels and stainless steel. Here the south facing slope has yielded this wine with 10.8 g/l RS and 7.4 g/l TA, 12%.โ€This tastes like an excellent GG, but with medium-dry balance. Excellent concentration and structure. Subtle ripe-peach and pear fruit, plus a ton of wet-stone character at the long, firm finish. Drink or hold.โ€ 95 points, JamesSuckling.com, August 2021โ€The 2020er Brauneberger Juffer Riesling, as it is referred to on the consumer label, is an off-dry wine (with 12 g/l of residual sugar) with a superbly smoky and fresh nose of grapefruit, lemon, almond, herbs, spices, and vineyard peach. The wine proves beautifully light and playful on the palate and leaves a superb zesty and linear spicy feel in the hugely long and already almost dry-tasting finish. It now only needs a few years of patience to develop even more complexity, but the result will be worth it. 2024-2040โ€ 92 points, moselfinewines.com, September 2021
Fritz Haag Riesling Brauneberger Juffer GG Trocken 2020 - Wine Germany White - Liquor Wine Cave
Fritz Haag Riesling Brauneberger Juffe... $77.95
2020 Rieslingย Brauneberger Juffer Grosses Gewรคchs TrockenGG designates the very best steep slope vineyards within which the finest have been demarcated. the south facing slope (73%) has yielded this wine with 4.0 g/l RS and 7.1 g/l TA, 12.5%.โ€™The Mosel equivalent to Corton-Charlemagne in Burgundy. This is so focused and has so much primal energy. Very firm core of minerals, fine tannins and citrus-zest character on the medium body, which also power the very long, crisp finish thatโ€™s rather bold. Drink or hold.โ€™ 95 points, Stuart Pigott, JamesSuckling.com, August 2021. 'The 2020 Juffer GG is deep, intense, clear and elegant as well as spicy on the nose that reveals tropical fruit aromas along with some herb and yeasty notes. Crystalline, pure and salty on the palate, this is a rich and powerful, very intense and persistent Juffer that is spectacularly good this year. Tasted in Wiesbaden in August 2021. Drink 2026-2045.' 95 points, Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate, September 2021.
Burklin-Wolf Wachenheimer Gerumpel P.C. Riesling Trocken 2020 - Wine Germany White - Liquor Wine Cave
Burklin-Wolf Wachenheimer Gerumpel P.C... $95.95
2020 Riesling Wachenheimer Gerumpel P.C. - very limitedThe Gerรผmpel vineyard in the village of Wachenheim is one of Germany's most famous vineyards, first mentioned in documents dated 1429. 13ha in total, Bรผrklin-Wolf'sย parcel amounts to 4.44ha. Gerรผmpel benefits from frequent warm winds, ensuring that the grapes dry quickly after rain, thus reducing the risk of fungal infection. This site is characterised by its capacity to produce healthy grapes, even when they are picked late. Its proximity to the Grand Cru vineyards of Forst (Pechstein G.C. is just over the fence), means that the Gerรผmpel profits from both the typical weatd sandstone of Wachenheim and the volcanic basalt from Forst.โ€˜Deep and fine mirabelle, guava and vanilla nose. Concentrated and energetic with bright, stony minerality that lifts the medium to full palate. Very long, exciting finish that shoots off into the distance! Drink or hold.โ€™ 95 points, Stuart Pigott, JamesSuckling.com, July 2021.

Baumard Savennieres Clos du Papillon sec, Loire Valley 2013
Baumard Savennieres Clos du Papillon s... $85.95
โ€The Baumard family own 7 hectares of the Clos du Papillon which itself amounts to about 14.5 hectares, the remaining 7.5 hectares shared out between two other owners. Its name is derived from its shape, which resembles that of a butterfly (or papillon), when viewed from the slope opposite. Underfoot the terroir is principally schist, varying with the slope; there are other igneous and some metamorphic rocks at the top of the slope, especially rhyolite and quartz, whereas towards the bottom the soils take on a more sandy feel. The Baumard vines are in the eastern part of the vineyard, more on schist and sand. The vines are principally Chenin Blanc, although there is also a small 0.8-hectare plot of Chardonnay near the edge of the vineyard. Although it seems plausible that the fruit of these Chardonnay vines were once harvested and vinified with the Chenin Blanc for the Clos du Papillon cuvรฉe (very plausible, in fact), today these grapes are destined for the domaineโ€™s Crรฉmant de Loire.โ€ thewinedoctor.com
