Liquor Wine Cave is an online bottle shop. We have been in the wine and spirits trade since 1985, and we deliver across Australia by Australia Post. There is no shopfront to visit and nothing to collect: you order online and the bottles come to your door.

If you need a drink in the next hour, a local bottle shop will beat us. If you are after something a local bottle shop will never have, that is the whole point of us.

How long it takes

Orders are processed and dispatched within 2 to 7 business days. Older and rarer bottles sit at the longer end of that, because they are handled more carefully.

Once dispatched, Australia Post generally takes 2 to 5 business days to metropolitan addresses and 5 to 10 business days to regional and remote ones. Allowing for both stages, expect roughly 4 to 12 business days from order to doorstep. Those are Australia Post's own estimates rather than guarantees, and they stretch around public holidays and in December.

You will get a tracking reference by email as soon as your order is on its way.

What delivery costs

Delivery is calculated at checkout from your address and the size of your order, so the exact figure is visible before you pay.

Delivery is free on orders over $499 to Victoria, New South Wales, the ACT, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania. Western Australia and the Northern Territory are charged at the rate shown at checkout, with no free-delivery threshold at present.

Receiving an alcohol delivery

Alcohol can only be handed to a person aged 18 or over. A few things follow from that:

• Somebody aged 18 or over needs to be there to accept the parcel, and may be asked for photo identification.
• The courier will not leave alcohol unattended unless you have given an authority to leave.
• We cannot deliver to PO boxes, parcel lockers or other unattended collection points. A residential or business street address works best, and a workplace often works better than a home if nobody is in during the day.

Why order from us instead of a local bottle shop

Because of what is on the shelves. The range runs a good deal deeper than a suburban bottle shop or a supermarket chain can carry:

• Armagnac with vintages running back to the 1940s, so you can find the year somebody was born
• Rum and rhum agricole from Foursquare, Pusser's, El Dorado, Neisson, J.M and Saint James
• Single-cask and independent-bottling whisky that never reaches general distribution
• Cognac, Calvados, Pisco, Cachaça, Grappa and eau de vie from small producers with no other Australian outlet
• French liqueurs and aperitifs, including bottles that are genuinely hard to find here
• Wine from Australia, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and New Zealand

We are the Australian source for a number of these producers, which is why people who know exactly what they want tend to end up here.
