Tasting note

Le Clos du Caillou sits in Courthezon, on the edge of the Chateauneuf-du-Pape appellation, and has been in the Pouizin family since 1956. The estate is farmed biodynamically, and Le Bouquet des Garrigues is one of its historic Cotes du Rhone cuvees. The 2022 is 70% Grenache and 15% Syrah, with the rest Mourvedre, Carignan and Counoise, grown on clay soils with round pebbles in the Le Coudoulet and Les Garrigues lieux-dits, right on the border of Chateauneuf. Most of the fruit is destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in concrete, with 20% made by carbonic maceration in whole clusters. It is then aged for 24 months, 60% in concrete and 40% in foudres. The estate describes blackberry, blueberry and cherry with spice and black tea, a juicy, elegant palate with cinnamon and white pepper, and a hint of garrigue.
