Tasting note

The Muzard family's roots in Santenay go back to 1645, when a winegrower of the name appears on a deed for the sale of grapes. Lucien Muzard bought land and planted vines, and since 1995 his sons Claude and Herve have bottled everything at the domaine. They farm without chemical herbicides, harvest by hand and ferment with indigenous yeasts. Champs Claude is a 1.49 hectare parcel at about 270 metres, on a gentle east-facing slope right next to Chassagne-Montrachet's Morgeot. The vines average over 70 years of age and grow in clay loam with limestone just below the surface. Around 30 per cent of the bunches go into the vat whole, the cap is gently punched down, and the wine matures in Burgundian barrels with 15 to 20 per cent new oak. A serious village Santenay; serve at 14 to 15 degrees with roast duck, veal or mushroom dishes.
