Tasting note
Monteru is a French brandy from Naud, and this bottling brings Japanese oak into play. It is distilled from Folle Blanche, about 90% from the 2014 harvest and 10% from 2012. The spirit first matured in new and used French Limousin oak, then moved into a virgin Mizunara cask handmade in Japan for roughly 12 months.
Bright golden yellow, it has the fresh, lively nose you would expect from Folle Blanche, opening on something between resin, eucalyptus and honey. The palate brings elegant spice, cinnamon above all with a clove note in the background, and the finish is creamy. It does not taste like a classic brandy, which is what makes it surprising.
