Tasting note
Elijah Craig Small Batch is a Kentucky straight bourbon from Heaven Hill, bottled at 47% ABV.
Small batch means a marriage of a limited number of barrels rather than a full production run, and Heaven Hill states a maximum of 200 barrels goes into any Elijah Craig batch. The whiskey is aged in new charred oak, as the bourbon rules require, and the extra strength above the standard 40% gives it noticeably more weight in a mixed drink. The brand is named for a Baptist preacher and distiller of the late 18th century, a figure whose role in bourbon's history is disputed by historians.
