Red Wines

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon uses fruit produced from 40 year old vines on the Follett family vineyard, situated on the Bremer flood plain at Langhorne Creek. Traditional open fermentation was employed followed by maturation in French oak barriques for 20 months, prior to bottling. The wine displays a lifted aromatics of black fruits and violets, along with some cedary oak nuances.The concentrated palate has a lovely silky texture, showing chocolate and cassis flavours and a wonderfully long finish. With careful cellaring this wine will age superbly for at least the next 10 years.

La Demoiselle de Sociando-Mallet offers a fresh and fruity wine, easy and pleasant to drink from a young age.

Grown from 20 year old MV6 Pinot Noir vines in the cool climate of Mt Gambier at South Australia's southern most border with Victoria.  Grown on limestone soils of the Limestone Coast, known for excellent colour, this wine is no exception with deep purple red hue, cherry, dark berries and subtle spice on the nose with some carefully integrated French oak. A serious Pinot with a medium to full body palate. 

Brilliant ruby red with garnet reflections, fragrant perfumes of maraschino cherry, cinnamon and nutmeg, vanilla and anise. The taste is full and balanced with sweet and soft tannins that confer a good aromatic persistence.

Maxima Vita Arbos is an higher quality of Sangiovese “in purezza” produced on hilly vineyards sloping down to the sea and partially aged in barriques for a certain period. It is selected by the Castellani family, following strict quality standards concerning the colour, the alcohol content, the bouquet. A final tasting by Castellani experts authorizes the wine to be named under the name “Arbos”, symbol of excellence worldwide.

100% Pinot Noir from three vineyards in the Coal River Valley: the Brinktop Vineyard in Sorell, the Pressing Matters vineyard in Richmond and the Bubb + Pooley vineyard on White Kangaroo Road. The clonal mix is 115, MV6, 777 and 2051 (D5V12). The fruit was hand picked and wild-yeast fermented with 10% whole bunches over 25 days. Matured for 9 months in a mix of concrete (30%) and French oak puncheons (70%) with 20% new oak. Bottled unfined, so vegan friendly.

An exciting twist on our syrah this year sees the inclusion of viognier. A blend of syrah from the Tamar Valley and Coal River Valley co-fermented with whole bunches of exotic viognier. Hand harvested, destemmed and open fermented with 6% viognier inclusion has produced a wine of aromatic opulence and with layers of texture. 

The wine is Ruby red with violet hues, clean and very bright. Raspberry and red fruits; very characteristic of the variety. Light notes of smoke and spice and a hint of vanilla. Medium to light bodied, this wine is fresh with a good equilibrium of tannins and acidity. Finishing with notes of raspberry

An elegant expression of Garnacha with effortless notes of raspberry, sweet and sour cherry laced with distinctive minerality. Smooth with a savoury note on the palate, this is full of finesse.

Nipozzano Riserva Chianti Rufina DOCG is one of the historic wines produced at the Castello di Nipozzano. This wine always retains its close relationship with the Castello di Nipozzano terroir.

Grapes from Colbinabbin, mid-north of the Heathcote region, blended together with a smaller parcel from further south west.  Harvested early to capture a great fresh feel.  Delicate nose, dark crimson colour, soft tannins, forward  bright fruit of rhubarb and red plum.  Delicious, enjoy it now.

Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) with Merlot making up 35% of the blend and Petit Verdot rounding out the classic blend with 5% of the final blend. The percentage of new oak is kept to a minimum to ensure the fruit speaks clearly at all stages of the wines long and graceful evolution. This is wine which typically ages effortlessly for up to 20 years or more while also being enjoyable in their youth. Great intro into classic left bank cabernet dominate Bordeaux.

Domaine A Petit a is an assemblage of classic Bordeaux varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand from old estate vines. Typically, veraison will happen in February and picking in mid-April. Petit a is crafted in small batches employing traditional techniques including open vat fermentation, regular racking and hand plunging. It is matured in seasoned French oak barriques for 2 years and rested in the cellar for a further 4 years until ready for release. This wine is one of the last years of Peter Althaus producing Domaine A wines before Conor van der Reest and David Walsh took over winemaking and ownership respectively.

The Tomfoolery ‘Black & Blue’ Shiraz is sourced from a select premium vineyard in the northern sub-region of Ebenezer in the Barossa Valley. Grown by 5th generational grape grower Adrian Hoffmann this site offers soils that are commonly sandy loam over heavy red clay which provide a controlled yet accessible source of water allowing the vines to produce stunning fruit. Colour: Black and blue! Aroma: Big and bold, with a punch of plum pudding, liquorice and caraway seeds, all smothered in bramble jam.  Palate: Full-bodied, rich and satisfying with ripe plummy fruit and bacon smoke, tightened on the finish by fresh acidity and meaty chunks of firm tannin. 

80% Grenache (1964), 20% Mourvèdre (1977) from several lieu-dits located on the lower terraces of Gigondas (approx. 150 metres altitude) fermented on skins in large concrete vats for 5 weeks before ageing in large 50 hl old foudres for 12 months before bottling un-fined and unfiltered. This typically shows very well from a young age with great balance and finesse.

The nose brims with emphatic notes of wild red fruit, such as blackberry, redcurrant, raspberry, and strawberry. The mouth boasts a warm velvety mouthfeel, with fine-grained tannins already well integrated into the structure. A bright, lively acidity contributes to the wine’s impressive overall balance.

We’re back, this time Georgia has no Friends.  It’s got everything you want from a typical Georgia’s Paddock Shiraz.  Powerful yet elegant, well rounded red and black fruits, brilliant spice with soft subtle tannins that extend through the whole palate. Very well balanced as usual. Cellar or drink now, your choice.
