Red Wines

The Studebaker Pinot Noir is named after Neil Prentice's beloved 1957 Studebaker President, which he sold a long while ago to fund some fence posts for the vineyard! It's an approachable, soft and delicate Pinot with the signature Moondarra style. All the grapes are handpicked, then they get destemmed and crushed before fermentation in large puncheons, so the oak influence takes a back seat here, letting the fruit really shine through. It's loaded with nuanced flavours of red berries, earthiness and a ferrous minerality from the volcanic soils. Bang for buck, check.

2020 Côtes du Rhône Villages Plan de Dieu Vieilles Vignes80% Grenache (1948), 20% Mourvèdre (2010). This wine is sourced from the lower terraced parcels of the Plan de Dieu lieu-dit, in the commune of Violès. The Grenache vines are over 70 years old and come from two sites, one planted on red clay and the other on galets (smooth river-worn pebbles). The younger Mourvèdre vines are planted on sandy soil. The wine is fermented for 30 days in concrete vats, then matured for 10 months in a mix of concrete tanks and large old 50 hL oak foudres. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration.“The old vine bottling of Plan de Dieu from Joel and Romain Saurel is composed of a blend of eighty percent grenache (vines planted in 1949) and twenty percent mourvèdre (vines planted in 1978). The grapes are co-fermented in cement vats and aged in the same for eight months prior to bottling. This wine owes its name to the 15th century fortified palace called "Castello Quadrio di Chiuro", home of the Nino Negri winery, built for Stefano Quadrio, governor of Valtellina in the 15th century. The wine represents a perfect marriage between the austerity of Nebbiolo and the international touch of Merlot. The Merlot cultivated on the terraces in Valtellina is characterised by very sweet fruity notes and soft, velvety tannins that manage to soften the Nebbiolo, providing a different expression of Valtellina Superiore characterised by its immediacy and drinkability.

The grapes for this wine were selected from old vines in the famous wine district of Langhorne Creek. It has an amazing lifted bouquet of blackberries with a touch of mocha. The ageing in oak for 15 months has enhanced the mouth-feel of this wine, which is rich and smooth, and offers a lovely soft finish with polished tannins.Best consumed over the next 3-4 years and will drink even more dangerously paired with roast lamb. Adelaide Hills. Hand-picked in Lenswood. North-east facing slope. 30% whole bunch. Wild fermented.  Matured in French oak for 9 months, 20% new. Pinot noir grapes were handpicked in the cool of the early morning and delivered directly to the winery. 30% whole bunch was put in the bottom of each open fermenter with the balance destemmed directly on top. The fruit was left to cold soak for 4 days after which wild ferment began spontaneously. The ferments were gently hand plunged twice daily so as to maintain as many whole berries as possible. Creating bright juicy fruit characters and firm yet silky tannin structure. The wine was matured in a mixture of new French oak Barrique and 2-4 year seasoned French oak. The barrels were tasted blind by the winemaking team selectin a portion of 20% new oak. The final blend was racked out of barrel, settled in tank and bottled without filtration or fining.  TASTING NOTES: Deep crimson with purple hues. Deep and brooding. Roasted beetroot, bramble fruit and cured meats. Fine yet firm tannins provide great length on the palate. Accompanied with black cherry, truffle and dried herbs. 13.3%

Zenato Amarone is a wine with a great structure, complex, elegant and velvety. It is produced with grapes cultivated in the classical area of Valpolicella a land full of tradition and well known for it's wine and food culture.

Brilliant ruby red with violet reflections, Bell’Assai 2019 has intense floral notes of violet and rose on the nose, as well as fruity hints of raspberry and strawberry. It is fresh and fragrant and with a soft tannin that enhances its pleasantness.

Grape variety:Montepulciano - SangioveseProduction and harvest:harvested only in the best years from the oldest vines of our farm. Grapes are hand-selected for a balanced and uniform ripening. Late harvest.Refined in oak barrels for over a year.Recommended pairing:Ideal with red meat, game, and aged cheeses.Serving temperature 18°C.We recommend to uncork this wine well in advance.

GRAPE VARIETIES 80% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha, 5% Graciano & Mazuelo SOIL Clay and limestone. VINIFICATION Handpicked the grapes are fermented in large, very old, oak vats, without the addition of yeasts. Aged in barriques for 5 years, being racked twice per year and fined with fresh egg whites, bottled unfiltered with a further 6+ years aging. THE VINEYARDS The El Bosque vineyard is situated next to the river Ebro at an altitude of 465m in Haro, on the south-facing foothills of the Sierra Cantabria range. TASTING NOTES. This wine has evolved perfectly showing a deep ruby colour with shades of orange. Its nose is persistent showing tertiary aromas that give an excellent complexity to the wine. On the palate this wine is full bodied and showing a lot of mature savoury fruit, more rustic than the Vina Tondonia with dusty tannins. Its taste is round, smooth, fresh, full of body and persistent

From a low yielding vintage, giving a weighty version of this wine with typical dark magenta colour & aroma of plum, ripe red berries & spice that follow through on to the full palate, finishing with a concentration of earthy, chalky tannins balanced with lots of natural acidity. Great longevity.

Offers a distinctive floral-fruity scent with vanilla notes and an intriguing, complex flavour.

THE VINEYARDS Situated on the right bank of the River Ebro in Haro, the Tondonia vineyard sits in a shell like depression in the terrain in Rioja Alta bordering the Basque Rioja. TASTING NOTES. Vibrant red leading slightly towards amber. Light fresh texture with notes of vanilla, red cherry and dried berry aromas. Rich, plush, very dry, smooth and developed yet still fresh, with firm tannins, good balance and great length.

Distinctive rosemary, thyme and rosemary aromas with blue fruits and savoury tannins. This wine offers up very intense aromas of fresh red & black berries with a distinctive regional dried herb scent. Aromas of fresh picked basil, thyme & rosemary. On the palate, some rosemary & thyme continues the theme, with black cherries, sweet blueberry & hints of vanilla oak notes. 

A ruby red colour, the wine is clean and bright in appearance. The nose exudes an aroma brimming with intensity, of very ripe red fruit on a balsamic background. The palate is smooth, fresh and sinewy, with well-integrated and polished tannins, exhibiting touches of liquorice on the aftertaste.

This 2019 reserva wine has a bright, ruby-red colour, with medium depth and a garnet tinged rim.On the nose it proves to be a wine which is complex in aroma, in which primary aromas of fruit such as blueberries are enhanced by spicy nuances.On the palate it is long, balanced and elegant, with perfectly integrated acidity and smooth tannins. The finish is very long and fruity.Perfect to be drunk now but thanks to its great balance and structure it can be kept in the bottle for several more years.

Classic Australian medium bodied Shiraz. 14.7% ABV

Average age of vines about 60 y.o. in sandy north-facing soil in north-west of appellation. 85% Grenache, 5% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre and 5% Vaccarese. Vinified 100% whole-bunch, all raised in concrete tanks for 18-21 months, fined, unfiltered.

Made from 100% Syrah in the lieu-dit of Rozier (Côte Brune) with a perfect south-west exposition from 21 year-old vines. The wine was fermented with about 50% whole bunches and then matured for 13 months in 1, 2 and 3 year-old barriques. A very fresh and aromatic style of Côte Rôtie from soils of schist and brown, iron oxide-rich clay on this superb site. How great Côte Rôtie used to be, deep yet elegant and perfumed, with lovely mid-palate volume and a long complex finish, framed by fine silky tannins and refreshing acidity. Only 120 dozens produced.

Dark purple. Highly perfumed aromas of dark fruit preserves, smoky minerals, exotic spices and bacon fat. Chewy and sweet on the palate, offering concentrated blackberry, cherry preserve and spicecake flavors braced by a spine of juicy acidity. Shows excellent clarity on the impressively persistent finish, which leaves cherry liqueur and smoked meat notes behind.

Intense bright red with violet nuances. On the nose, present aromas of rose, caramel and sweet spices. Generous and juicy on the palate with medium to full body, sweet cherries, dark raspberries and supple tannins.
