Tequila

Tequila is a distilled beverage made from the blue agave plant, primarily in the area surrounding the city of Tequila 65 km (40 mi) northwest of Guadalajara, and in the Jaliscan Highlands (Los Altos de Jalisco) of the central western Mexican state of Jalisco.
Our range of tequilas is from the Fonseca family (Don Fulano) that has been agave farming for five generations. They are one of only two producers to offer 1OO% estate grown and bottled tequila. The agave uses a dual distillation process comprised of a double column still and a traditional copper pot still.
Don Fulano was founded in 2000 by Sergio Mendoza and Enrique Fonseca. It s made at La Tequilena NOM1146

Tequila is a type of distilled spirit that is synonymous with Mexico. Made from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the Jalisco state of Mexico, Tequila has a unique taste and aroma that has captivated drinkers around the world.

To produce Tequila, the agave plant's core is harvested and cooked, releasing its sweet juices. The liquid is then fermented and distilled to create a clear, colourless spirit that can be aged to create different varieties of Tequila.

Blanco Tequila, also known as silver or white Tequila, is bottled immediately after distillation and has a crisp, fresh flavor. Reposado Tequila is aged in oak barrels for at least two months, giving it a smooth, slightly woody taste. Añejo Tequila, aged in oak barrels for at least a year, has a rich, complex flavour.

Tequila is commonly consumed as a shot, with a wedge of lime and a sprinkle of salt, but it is also a popular ingredient in cocktails such as the Margarita and Tequila Sunrise.

To ensure the quality of Tequila, it must be produced in Mexico and adhere to specific regulations set by the Mexican government. These regulations dictate the regions where Tequila can be produced and the types of agave plants that can be used.

In summary, Tequila is a unique and beloved spirit that is synonymous with Mexico, and with its versatility, it's no surprise that it has become a staple in bars and homes around the world.

Tequila is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the region surrounding the city of Tequila, in the western Mexican state of Jalisco. The history of tequila can be traced back to the pre-Columbian era when the indigenous people of Mexico fermented the sap of the agave plant to produce a mildly alcoholic beverage called pulque.

The Spanish conquistadors arrived in Mexico in the early 16th century and introduced distillation techniques to the indigenous population. They soon began to distill agave, producing a more concentrated form of alcohol, which came to be known as tequila.

The first commercial tequila factory was established in 1758 by José Antonio Cuervo, who began to mass-produce the spirit. In the 19th century, tequila production was further refined, with the introduction of steam ovens for cooking the agave and copper stills for distillation.

Today, tequila is a popular spirit worldwide and is recognized as one of Mexico's national drinks. It is classified into two categories: 100% blue agave tequila and mixed tequila, which contains a minimum of 51% blue agave. Tequila can be enjoyed on its own or in cocktails such as the Margarita, which is a popular drink made with tequila, lime juice, and triple sec.

Tequila is a beloved Mexican spirit that's enjoyed around the world. To drink tequila, follow these steps:

- Choose your tequila: Tequila comes in different varieties such as blanco, reposado, and añejo, each with their unique flavour profile. Choose a tequila that suits your taste preference.

- Use a shot glass: Tequila is typically served in a small shot glass, known as a caballito, which holds about 1.5 ounces of liquid.

- Salt and lime: While it's not mandatory, many people enjoy drinking tequila with a salt and lime. To do this, first, lick the area between your thumb and index finger, sprinkle some salt on the wet spot, and then hold a lime wedge between your fingers.

- Take a sip: Take the shot of tequila and hold it in your mouth for a few seconds, allowing the flavours to develop. If you prefer, you can also sip it slowly.

- Chase it with lime and salt: After taking the shot, quickly bite into the lime wedge and suck on it to balance the flavour of the tequila. Then, lick the salt off your hand to finish off the tequila experience.

Remember to drink tequila responsibly and in moderation. Salud!
