ADMIRAL GEORGE B. RODNEY, 1ST BARON RODNEY KB (1718-1792)
Admiral G. Rodney was a brilliant naval strategist, an inveterate gambler and an unscrupulous collector of the spoils of war. He will forever be remembered as the Admiral who broke the French line at the Battle of the Saints thus ensuring British domination of the Caribbean.
The Admiral Rodney series of award-winning rums celebrates this famous naval battle and toasts the courage and valor of British sailors who "broke the line" and vanquished the French fleet.
HMS Monarch was a 74-gun British Royal Navy ship and fought in the vanguard of ships in the Battle of the Saints. In later life, Monarch fought at the Battle of Copenhagen against the Royal Danish Navy. On 30 March 1801 the Monarch, under James Robert Mosse's command, led the fleet through the Sound of Copenhagen towards the capital, under fire from Kronborg Castle. Mosse and 55 of his crew perished against a concerted and courageous Danish attack.
HMS Monarch contains rums aged in both American white oak Bourbon and Port casks. All the rums have been aged between 6 and 9 years before being assembled by our Master blender in associa- tion with H. J. Hansen Vin exclusively for Denmark .
Deep mahogany colour with sultanas and vanilla on the nose and a hint of red and black fruits. Sweet with intense brown sugar, praline and candied fruits. The sweetness lingers with toasty oak and tropical spices to give balance and complexity.
The Admiral Rodney series of rare and matured rums are handcrafted at St. Lucia Distillers using traditional methods and an unbreakable commitment to quality.
All Admiral Rodney rums are distilled using our 45 plates Coffey still which was commissioned in 1984. Admiral Rodney rums are extrac- ted from the bottom plates of the Coffey still as these distillates have the balance of flavours which enable a long maturation period to provide intensity and complexity.
