Tasting note

Les Menais is a parcel of Cabernet Franc in Varrains, north of Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg, farmed by Fabien Duveau, whose family has worked vines near Saumur for eight generations. The vines average around 30 years old and grow in sand over limestone, and the wine is bottled under the Saumur-Champigny appellation. The fruit is hand harvested and sorted, fermented with indigenous yeasts after a short, gentle maceration, and made without added sulphites. It is then aged for about six months in concrete tanks, keeping the focus on fruit and freshness. The estate describes blackberry and blueberry on the nose, then a supple, fresh palate of raspberry and cherry with the minerality of the site and a peppery finish. A juicy, early drinking Cabernet Franc. Serve at around 16 degrees.
