Tasting note
J.M Blanc 50 is a white AOC Martinique rhum agricole from the Fonds-Préville distillery, which sits at the foot of Mount Pelée near Macouba in the north of the island. The J.M initials are those of Jean-Marie Martin, who bought the estate in 1845 and turned its sugar mill into a distillery.
How it is made. The distillery says more than 75% of its cane grows right around the estate and is crushed as soon as it arrives. The fresh juice is fermented, run through column stills, then rested and brought down to 50% over at least six months in stainless steel tanks.
Tasting. Crystal clear. J.M lists fresh lime, honey, cane flower and white pepper on the nose, and a rich, generous palate with a vegetal, powerful profile: vivid, bold and zesty.
The classic serve. J.M suggests a Ti' Punch: stir a teaspoon of cane sugar into 50ml of the rhum without ice, then squeeze in a small piece of lime peel. See the full range in our J.M collection.
Guide: Rhum Agricole: The Australian Guide to Martinique's Cane Juice Rum
Rhum agricole is distilled from fresh sugarcane juice rather than molasses, and it tastes nothing like the rum most Australians know.
