Tasting note
Part of Jean Boyer's Original Rum Bullion range, this is a traditional white rum from the island of Réunion, bottled at 45%. Jean Boyer is a spirits house founded in 1994 and based at Saint-Geours-de-Maremne in France.
The rum is left uncoloured and is not chill filtered, and Jean Boyer rates its sweetness at just 1 out of 10. The house keeps its rums very lightly sweetened so that their local character comes through. Because nothing is stripped out by chill filtering, it can occasionally show a faint haze.
The name. Rumbullion is an old word for rum. In the English colonies rum was once called Kill-Devil, while on the French islands the name Rumbullion stuck, which can be read as sugar cane broth.
Using it. The house rates it medium in body and intensity and ideal for cocktails. A good tip for releasing the aromas: swirl a little fresh water round the glass and tip it out before pouring. More unaged rums are in our white rum collection.
