Tasting note
Wa is a Japanese vodka that its maker describes as carrying the taste of "wa", a word for things distinctly Japanese. It comes from Meiri Shurui, a sake and umeshu producer in Mito, Ibaraki, a city nicknamed the water city for its fresh springs. The vodka uses sake as its base, and that clean local water is central to its crisp, fresh style.
Before bottling at 40%, it is carefully filtered through charcoal made from selected Japanese white birch, which the producer says gives a clearer taste. Meiri recommends it as a base for cocktails.
